Soul Kissing

Updated: Feb 8, 2021

I created this poetry land art installation to bring a little more love and beauty to the world.

The idea's been unfolding over the past few years. It started when my son Mark and I noticed that the poplar bark drift wood along the beach looked a lot like little books with their pages splayed. We would gather them up, split them apart, write on the "pages" and bind them together. They were the perfect size for poems and inspirational quotes.

Last December I found myself walking along that same beach, remembering those tiny books. I gathered a bunch of bark and went home to burn poems into them. I decided to hang them along the path to our house. I had no idea what a powerful impact this would have on my life. Most days I forget they're there but my eyes catch them every time I walk by. I find myself reciting them in my head and it feels like the words are kissing my soul. I want you to experience this too! The community poetry land art installation was born.

I've burned snippets from 7 of my favourite poems into poplar bark, including Rumi, Rilke, Mary Oliver, Hafiz, Thich Nhat Hanh and Emily Dickinson. They're available here

Each poem is $29 plus shipping or free pick up in Calgary. Consider hanging it along the path to your home or place it somewhere in your community for everyone to see. I would love to see where it ends up! You can share your pictures on Instagram #soulkissingpoetrylandart or send them to me at

You can choose from:

I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world.

Rainer Maria Rilke

What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Mary Oliver

Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul

Emily Dickenson

Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.

Thich Nhat Hanh

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.

Stay close to anything that makes you glad to be alive.

The wound is the place where the Light enters you.
