Here's The Thing About Writing

For the past 7 days I’ve been taking a Wild Writing class with Laurie Wagner. The opportunity seemed to come out of nowhere and it felt like someone was stretching out their hand, inviting me to come along on this amazing journey. So I did.

Here’s the thing about writing, I use to love it. That was before I realized that I knew more about French grammar than English. Before the 200 page masters thesis and the years of government correspondence. I use to love writing stories, poems and letters. My voice would land on the page easily and effortlessly. I remember times when my hand couldn't keep up. Everything just seemed to flow when I was 13 years old.

When I signed up for Laurie's class I didn't know what to expect and I wasn't sure why I was doing it or if I'd stick with the practice for the whole 7 days. From the moment she started reading the first poem, I knew this was for me. There was no going back. Something had stirred in me. This wild writing practice helps me open up and connect with my authentic self. It makes it easier to show up in my studio every morning and inspires new art.
